A note from Sean McManmon

I have had a long and distinguished career in “Estate Management” and many years were spent in the K Club in Straffan, County Kildare. I have a great passion for the outdoor life and great respect for the environment. My first love though is for fishing! My father taught me how to fish and was a noted dry fly fisherman; he always used the expression “If your work interferes with fishing give up your work".

I was one of the lucky ones. I found a job that involved fishing. I have represented Ireland for many years and captained the Leinster team and the Irish fly fishing team of which I have won the individual award for “Top Rod”. I have also won the accuracy fly casting competition in the United Kingdom which was a wonderful achievement for any Irish man as I am told I was the first Irish man to do so. I went on to coach the Lady’s Irish fly fishing team for five years of which was a wonderful experience. I only hope now I can share some of my experiences with you at Killeen Castle.

Having worked in Straffan House, now known as the K Club, for many years and with different owners I met with many high profile people and became friends with many of them i.e. George Bush, Liam Neeson Pierce Brosnan, Sylvester Stallone, Bill Gates, Mark O Meara and Tiger Woods as well as my number one idle, Gerry Hall, all of whom have a great love for fishing.

My second love is for Gardening for which I have great passion. My greatest challenge was the Ryder Cup 2006. It gave me great pride and satisfaction to see the wonderful display of flowers televised worldwide and the feedback was excellent.

Now it is with great honour that I accept another challenge in working with a great team for the upcoming Solheim Cup in 2011. I look forward to seeing you casting a line with me at my new home here in Killeen Castle.
